Cleidothaerus albidus
Original description of the species, by Lamarck (1819), is transcribed below:
"Ch. testá semi-orbiculari, obliquè affixâ, glabrá; lamellis transversis, undiquè appressis.
Habite la mer de Java. Mus. no. Leschenault. Couleur, blanc-jaunâtre. Longueur, 45 millimètres."
A more comprehensive description of the species, under a new name (Cleidothaerus chamoides), was presented by Stutchbury (1830):
"C. testâ invohtâ, rufâ, internè subviridi sub-margaritaceâ ; valvâ dextrâ majore profundâ, latere antico adhaerente; latere convexo claviculae sulcato.
Shell involute, brownish red, internally of a greenish pearly lustre, attached by the anterior side of the right valve, which is of great depth ; left valve but slightly convex ; the clavicular appendage with a groove on the convex side."
